Qualifications

#1. Trade-in must be rated at 18 Miles Per Gallon or Less

You current car, SUV, minivan, and light-duty trucks (less than 6,000 lbs) must have an EPA combined Miles Per Gallon rating of 18 miles per gallon or less. You can check to see what your vehicle is rated at by visiting the EPA Website. Find your vehicle there and you should see your vehicles rating.

#2. New Vehicle must be 25 years old or less.

If your car is older than 25 years old you may not use it to receive a voucher towards a new vehicle. This means only vehicles made in parts of 1984 and newer will be eligible for trade-in. This was highly influenced by SEMA to prevent vintage and classic cars from being crushed in favor of car collectors and enthusiasts.

#3. Must be a new vehicle.

The vehicle you trade your car in for must be a vehicle that has never been titled before. This means brand new! The vehicle’s MSRP may not exceed $45,000 and must get a specific fuel rating improvement over the trade-in vehicle. For passenger cars the minimum is 22 MPG to qualify and be anywhere between 4-9 miles per gallon better to receive the $3,500 voucher and at least 10 miles per gallon for the $4,5000 voucher. For light-duty trucks the minimum is 18 miles per gallon with a mileage improvement of at least 2 miles per gallon for $3,500 and 5 miles per gallon for $4,500. For large light-duty trucks the minimum is 15 miles per gallon with at least a 1 miles per gallon improvement or trade-in of a work truck* for $3,500 and a 2 miles per gallon improvement for $4,500. For commercials trucks the trade-in must be at least pre-2002.

*Most work trucks are not rated for fuel economy which is why this is possible.
